Cala Homes emerged as the big winner at the first digital Scottish Home Awards

The renowned firm landed the biggest award of the night, Housebuilder of the Year (100+ units), while the East of Scotland secured one of the most highly contested categories; "Innovation in Design" for its celebrated Waterfront Plaza development in Leith.

Held virtually on Thursday 29 October, the 13th annual awards crowned 18 housebuilders in what was a record year of entries from 109 Scottish businesses.

In the digital ceremony, broadcast live from Glasgow and hosted by radio DJ Des Clark, Cala Homes was celebrated for its high-quality developments, training initiatives, sustainability practices and zero carbon goals, which raised it above other entries.

Waterfront Plaza was praised for its modern take on the historic Edinburgh colonies in the Innovation in Design category.

David McGrath, Regional Chairman for Cala Homes, said: “To see Cala recognised at such a major industry event is incredibly rewarding.

“The entire Cala team works incredibly hard to deliver amazing homes and maintain the highest standards of housebuilding, innovation and customer excellence.

“Winning the Innovation in Design category shines a light on all of the hard work of our in-house architecture and design teams, who worked with local consultants EMA Architects to create a truly modern interpretation of a classic Edinburgh design.”

Cala was also shortlisted for Housing Development of the Year (Small) for its Fentoun Green development in Gullane, and Housing Development of the Year (Large) for Ravelrig Heights in Balerno.

The housebuilder, which has its national headquarters in Edinburgh, employs more than 1100 people across 10 offices around the UK, with more than 75 developments UK-wide. The awards follow similar achievements last year, which saw the firm also scoop Home Builder of the Year at the Homes for Scotland Awards.

Waterfront Plaza in Leith has seen Cala transform the derelict ground between Ocean Terminal and Victoria Quay, breathing life into the area and creating a popular location for buyers. The development features a range of housetypes synonymous with Edinburgh’s historic architecture and design.
