Oxford Archaeology excavated 47 trenches on the land and discovered that Aylett’s Green served as a resting place for travellers and their horses. Among other things, elegant copper and silver alloy vessels and a blue glass bead were discovered, suggesting that the area was often visited or lived in by high status groups.
The artefacts discovered have been removed from the site, cleaned and dated for handing over to Braintree Museum, which is only a 20-minute drive away.
GOOD OLD BRITISH PUB GRUB
Kelvedon is home to some brilliant traditional British pubs like the highly rated The Angel Kelvedon, serving roast dinners and classic fish and chips, as well as The Railway Tavern, which offers a mix of British home comforts and European dishes on a beautiful riverfront location.
